How does ANSI affect me?
Many of you may have seen recent headlines about something called ANSI, and how their standards must be used for appraisals starting April 1st. ANSI (American National Standards Institute) has a set of standards referred to as ANSI Z765-2021 that provide guidance on how to determine GLA (gross living area) of a house. Here are a few things you should know:

  • Our team at HPS has been following ANSI and NCREC standards for measuring for over 10 years. They have always been our standards.
  • Fortunately in North Carolina, our real estate commission guidelines are compatible and complimentary to the ANSI standards, so you won’t see much of a major shift in our market.
  • You can rest assured that when your listings are measured by HPS, if the buyer gets an appraisal, the home will be measured using the same standards we use.

If you ever have any questions about how these guidelines affect your listings, please feel free to reach out! We would love to help.
